Workshop Your Fantasy, Science Fiction, or Horror Novel
When: January 30, 2020–April 16, 2020 6 p.m.– 8 p.m. Where: The Loft Literary Center Details: Click Here Are you working on a science fiction or fantasy novel? Writing something that's weird and doesn't seem to fit anywhere else? Your horror novel need some love? This could be the class for you! In this class you will get to workshop up to 20 pages of your novel in a supportive, uplifting environment; please have that 20 pages of writing already written or deep in progress, and be prepared to engage in thoughtful feedback, both as someone receiving and giving it. You will leave class each week with a deeper understanding of science fiction and fantasy craft, tips and tools to apply to your own work, and leave the end of the full class with feedback from every other student as well as notes from the teaching artist on how to improve or help your own work. The teaching artist may provide you with a reading list tailored to your own work to help you reach your goals with your manuscript. About half of class time will focus on student work (workshopping); the other half on instruction in craft, including world building, research strategies, character wounds, and plotting solutions. |
Tips to Make Your First Draft a Breeze When: March 28th, 2020 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Where: The Loft Literary Center Details: Click Here Is writing your first draft a drag? Do you struggle with getting that first draft done and then often face a mountain of revisions when you finally reach the end of that first draft? Then look no further! The tips and tricks you'll learn in this class may be the solution you're searching for! Class will focus on working with different writing techniques and exercises writers can complete before starting their first draft to help ease the drafting and revision process. Class will be 75% craft discussions, and 25% student writing/sharing. Students should have a story idea in mind, or a novel they are already working on or one they need help with. |
